  7.     Ferdinand Marcos never publicly admitted to the two kidney
  8. transplants he received in the early 1980s, and only a few
  9. intimates and family retainers knew anything about the
  10. operations. Now, with the old dictator safely gone, some
  11. details are surfacing, including the identity of the donors.
  12. The first kidney, transplanted in August 1983, came from a
  13. soldier in Marcos' presidential security command. This organ was
  14. rejected, leaving the Filipino leader fighting for his life
  15. just as his exiled rival Ninoy Aquino was returning to Manila
  16. (and assassination).  Another transplant was performed in
  17. November 1984; the donor this time was the 22-year-old son of
  18. Marcos' longtime masseur. According to old Marcos loyalists,
  19. both young men were happy to serve their leader in such a
  20. direct manner.
